- 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training
Area of Study
- Techniques, Training and Practice
Trainees will practice and learn the key poses in each category of asana (standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists, and inversions) and will begin to develop a relationship to both the form and the function of these different categories. These hours will incorporate 1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques, and 2) guided practice of the techniques themselves. Both areas will receive substantial emphasis. Trainees will achieve comprehension of the alignment maps for each of the five categories of asanas through observation and experience of how the poses in each category share a common foundation, and how to build upon this foundation. Students will learn to skills to create a well rounded hatha, vinyasa, gentle vinyasa, restorative (yin) class.
Sequencing beginners with limited balance, flexibility, isometric strength. Students will learn to teach a beginners class, private class, or workshop. Students will understand how to curate and lead a sequenced yogic themed practice that connects meditation, pranayama, mantra and yoga philosophy. Communication skills such as group dynamics, time management and the establishment of priorities and boundaries; How to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations, to the degree possible in a group setting; Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting; Teaching styles; Qualities of a teacher; The student learning process; Business aspects of teaching yoga* (including marketing and legal).
Students will learn Human anatomy and physiology of muscles & bones, systems of the body, organs of the body, benefits of yoga postures, Doshas, Nadis, Bandas, Chakras & Subtle Energies. Healthy and safe movement.
- Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle/ Ethics
Students will learn yoga philosophies and texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika or Bhagavad Gita. Yoga Lifestyle, such as ahimsa (non-violence) and the concepts of dharma and karma. Ethics for yoga teachers such as student-teacher relationship and community. Understanding the value of teaching yoga as a service to others (Seva). Students will learn about the importance of cultivating and growing in their personal practice as both a student and teacher of yoga.
Students will be empowered to cultivate & articulate their unique voice & teaching teaching style. Trainees will incorporate the above mentioned skills, philosophy, and techniques each teaching encounter. Students will observe other students teaching and will engage in the recursive process of giving and receiving positive feedback/evaluation.
- Optional Elective (Chair Yoga, Children’s Yoga, or Prenatal Yoga)
A combination topics as decided by lead trainers. We need to meet to go over the student handbook & you can also pay at that time if you decide to attend.
